As always, we’ll have a training session after we close our business meeting.  The hope is that we provide information that will help you enhance your programs and/or grow professionally.  Official CEUs are usually not available, but a certificate of attendance can be provided to show continuous learning for your personnel file.

Join us for our summer Quarterly Meeting!  We’ll be super quick because we know that staying engaged online for meetings can be challenging.

Jeff Thomas will present a 30-minute training on the 911 system.  Official CEUs are not available but a certificate of attendance can be provided.

This will be our first all online meeting and you know how we struggle with technology, so we beg forgiveness if we stumble slightly.

Quarterly Meeting – March 5, 2020 – Goodyear

Join us for our first Quarterly Meeting of the year. We will be hosted at Goodyear City Hall. Catch up on all the news and notes of AFBEA and its members.

Please park in the far west parking lot past covered parking area.  

As always, we’ll have a training that will add value to your programs and personal development.  Our featured training will be by Dan Shufelt from Arizona Helping Hands. Many children arrive at homes with only the clothes on their backs.  The agency assists families with many of the important essentials they need — like clothes, beds, etc. Dan will discuss how we can provide better education to foster children and families to ensure they group up with fire and life safety skills.

Official CEUs are not available but a certificate of attendance can be provided.

Community Risk Reduction 1-Day Symposium – FALL!

Register now for our fall Community Risk Reduction Symposium.  We have lined up some amazing speakers on topics that will help you enhance your programs and provide personal growth.

Yanick Hicks, The John Maxwell Team, will provide some Leadership Coaching that will fire up your passion to make a difference.  Get ready to get motivated!

Dr. Sue Wolf and Tiffany Wilkinson, Empowerment Research, are expected to be back to complete our training in Traumatic Brain Injuries.  Be prepared to dig into how the brain works and how the injuries can affect how we administer our programs.

Natalie Summit, LPC, is a retired Police Crisis Intervention Specialist from a Maricopa County Law Enforcement agency. It was not until her retirement ceremony in January 2019 that she elected to share her history with addiction, anxiety, family dysfunction, and both physical and emotional trauma both on and off the job. Nine years ago, Natalie made the decision to stop self-medicating the pain with alcohol and manage her life differently. Natalie will share her story and what she has learned Public Safety agencies can do to be more helpful for their valued employees.

Jeff Thomas, Psy.D., Ottawa University, will address issues related to human gender. Social norms are changing. This session will explore the application of gender in different cultures and worldviews.  By expanding our definition gender, we can better serve our community and all audiences.

The location is secured for Ottawa University!

Quarterly Meeting, Sept. 4, 2019

It’s time for Fire School! Join us before classes begin and get updated on the latest and greatest of AFBEA.

The explosion at the APS energy storage station sent shock waves throughout fire departments across the country. Discussions that impact fire code have already begun and many municipalities have already passed the update. Will Loseche, Fire Marshal for Golder Ranch Fire District is going to share what we should know about energy storage — including solar panels — to properly educate our communities.

Quarterly Meeting, June 27, 2019

We are super excited to announce that the Hassayampa Inn will be our host for the Summer General Meeting, June 27.

Our training will include a discussion about the Yarnell fire with Wickenburg Chief Ed Temerowski, specifically fire behavior. Also, we welcome Megan Fitzgerald-McGowan from NFPA. She will discuss available programming from NFPA that will help us promote wildland fire safety throughout Arizona.

Remember, although you will not receive official CEUs this training, you will receive a certificate of attendance. We hope these will provide added value to you for your performance evaluations.

The February Minutes will need to be approved.

Quarterly Meeting – Feb. 28, 2019

Join us for our first General Meeting of 2019. We’ll be at Superstition Fire and Medical Department.  In December, we determined that wildfire prevention will be a “hot” topic for our group.  We will be addressing this at our meeting with a special guest.  Tiffany Davila from the Department of Forestry and Fire Management will be our trainer in wildland fire basics.
